Program
OVERVIEW: Our goal while you are out is to keep kids happy, safe and engaged. Our drop-off program runs like a preschool without any preschool affiliation. Our daily schedule includes arts and crafts, recess, snack, music class, and lots of free play. The children learn socialization and structure while taking part in creative and educational activities. Families choose one day per week for their child(ren) to attend, though the option to attend multiple days per week may be available based on our enrollment numbers in each class. Parent helpers are integral to our success as a program. We require families to volunteer on-site for 2 days per year, per day of the week each child attends. You can learn more about parent helper duties and requirements here.
CLASSES: Children are assigned to their classes based on their age as of the first day of school (Nursery: 6m-1.5yr, Level 1: 1.5-2.5yr, Level 2: 2.5-3.5yr, Level 3: 3.5-5y) to allow for age-appropriate activities. Our child:teacher ratios vary by classroom: Nursery is 4:1, Level 1 & Level 2 are 8:1, Level 3 is 11:1. We also have a daily director and parent helper on-site daily to help in classrooms, prepping snacks, and cleaning.
HOURS: The hours are from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays OR Thursdays. Our program runs September through May. We follow the Kent School District calendar for all school breaks.
ABOUT: Mom’s Day Out is a community outreach program of Kent United Methodist Church. It was organized in 1989 by a group of mothers to provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere for their children, allowing them some personal time. Over the last 35 years MDO has impacted countless families by offering parents and caregivers a much-needed reprieve while knowing their young children are in a safe and engaging environment. MDO is a non-religious program and is proudly utilized by families of many demographics and backgrounds.
